In a startling turn of events, no one knows for sure when the first leg of the Malaysia Cup quarter-final between the LionsXII and Pahang FA will be played. Some claim it’s on Friday, others Sept 28.
They will know by today when the match in Kuantan will be played.
When the fixtures were first released before the tournament kicked off late last month, the quarter-finals were originally slated for Sept 28 and Oct 5. Two alternative dates were set – Friday and Sept 26 – due to the Sultan of Selangor’s Cup involving A Singapore Selection and Selangor taking place on Sept 29.
However, because the LionsXII finished top of Group A, they will face Group D runners-up Pahang instead of winners Selangor, which means they will no longer be affected by the schedule of the Sultan of Selangor’s Cup.
Both LionsXII coach V Sundramoorthy and Pahang coach Dollah Salleh told The New Paper their teams are gearing up for Friday's game.
However, a Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) source told TNP last week that there has been no confirmation of any schedule change and the first leg of the quarter-finals will take place on Sept 28.
