FOLLOWING what has happened to one of our own, I feel a strong conviction to speak out against the drinking culture among our footballers.
I feel the smoking culture has already gone out of hand, and soon, the drinking culture will become the norm if it is not nipped in the bud.
I dare to say it is not only Firdaus (Kasman). There are other players who have lifestyles that are not becoming of footballers – partying, drinking, smoking, etc...
(*LionsXII midfielder Firdaus was suspended indefinitely by the Football Association of Singapore last Monday for consuming alcohol. He is also under police probe for an alleged theft case which happened during his drinking session at Clarke Quay last Saturday.)
I feel Firdaus must take whatever punishment meted out and learn from his mistakes.
I hope this serves as a warning and deterrent for the rest of the players and young footballers in general.
