Father-to-be Shahril Ishak will miss the LionsXII's match against Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday as his wife is due to give birth to their first child this month.

The skipper, who is the team's leading scorer with nine league goals, may also miss the home match against Sarawak on May 22 and the international friendly against Hong Kong on June 1, depending on when the baby is born.

Both FAS and LionsXII assistant coach Kadir Yahaya said they fully understand and respect Shahril’s decision to ask for a leave of absence, as they believe that the family should come first.

1st of all congrats..we think that his mind is somewhere else not in the game! For the past few games he was totally uncommitted, did not try to win the ball back when he lost it or made few wayward passing. Always jogging.. The best candidates for the captaincy is either Harris Harun or Safuwan Baharuddin who are best reader of the game. Sundram..think about it!
