AMANDAL was only 19 when she spent two months abroad in Beijing as part of her overseas internship.

The internship was part of the school's curriculum and Amandal opted to go overseas to work in the China branch of a Singapore events company.

The 20-year-old confessed that it was the first time travelling alone and it was difficult to adjust to the lifestyle.

"I stayed in a rural area and they only had the bare minimum so it was hard to adapt to the lifestyle initially," she said. "It was a very interesting experience and an eye-opener. "And I had to overcome the language barrier too," she added sheepishly.

However, she felt that the experience only made her stronger and helped her grow. "I became very independent. I had to do things on my own; run errands and learn how to travel around.

"I even had to manage my own finances. This experience really made me a stronger person."
