MANDY works hard for her financial independence.

During the last three years, she worked three jobs to support herself.

She is now down to two, having left her job as dog handler last month. Despite this, she is still able to cover her individual expenses.

She explained: “My family isn’t well-to-do, so I think it’s only right that I be responsible and take care of myself.”

When she started working, she was a polytechnic student.

“I had a boyfriend at that time, so juggling that with projects and parents’ expectations of my grades was quite stressful,” Mandy recalled.

But things have looked up since she clinched a scholarship for her university studies.

“I’m putting in more time in my studies because I don’t want to screw it up, and I’m signing up for some co-curriculum activities which are in line with my hobbies.”

Her interests include dancing and animal welfare.

Mandy believes that her secret to success is proper time management and that setting oneself a deadline for any endeavour is important.

She said: “Time management is important and perseverance as well.

She added: “Find passion in whatever you’re doing.”
