53-year-old woman blackmailed by online "boyfriend" after she sends him nude photo
What do some people do when they fall in love? Send a nude selfie of course.
That's what a 53-year-old Malaysian divorcee sent to her new boyfriend, who she had met online. He then blackmailed her with the nude photo, reported The Star.
The single mother, who only wanted to be known as Chew, said in a press conference arranged by Malaysian Chinese Association Public Services and Complaints Department: "He told me he will display my nude photo unless I pay him US$5,000(S$6,253)."
She had met her 54-year-old "lover" whom she knows as Benjamin Federico, on a social dating website. He claimed to be a veterinarian based in Canada, .
In their online chats, the man revealed that he had savings of US$174,000. He planned to meet her in Malaysia in August and bring her back to Canada where they could get married.
Then, the man requested a nude picture of Chew. Chew, overjoyed by his proposal, agreed and sent him a photo two weeks ago.
When Chew asked one in return, he declined.
"(He said) that it was against his religion and family values," she said.
This aroused her suspicion and she decided to call off the relationship.
That's when he started blackmailing her using the photo. "Also, he demanded that I compensate him for breaking up with him," said Chew, who lodged a police report on Monday.
Chew has also reported him to the dating site, which has since removed Federico's profile.
