Boy, four, who lost both his legs in an accident, gets to 'fly' aircraft

He believes he can fly.

Two years ago, Li Haifeng, four, had both his legs amputated after a freak car accident.

Despite the tragedy, the boy from China's Hubei Province, had one dream - to have wings so he could fly.

His wish came true when China Eastern Airlines offered to make him a "little pilot".

The airline invited Haifeng and his family to Tianhe airport for an exclusive tour of an aircraft under restoration.

There, he sat in the cockpit and "took to the skies".

Said airline official Li Liangbin: "It was the first time for the boy to see a real plane. He was extremely happy."

Haifeng's family have spent 180,000 yuan (S$39,100) so far on the boy's treatment.

Quit job

His father, a migrant worker, had to quit his job to take his son for treatment in another part of the country.

"Although the family is in debt, I will not give up my son," said the father.

China Eastern has offered to give Haifeng's family free tickets home once the treatment is complete.

Haifeng's predicament gained online publicity when a video showed him dancing gleefully on a hospital bed.
