Case: Most complaints are from motorcar industry

The motorcar industry is the source of the highest number of complaints received by the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) since 2012, said the consumer watchdog.

Out of these complaints, more than 90 per cent of the cases involved used-car dealers.

Total number of cases involving the motorcar industry:

2012: 340

2013: 469

2014*: 273


It was also revealed that most complaints are related to these matters:

  • Defective goods
  • Failure to honour
  • Misrepresentation


Case suggests you:

1 Know your rights. Consumers have the right to seek redress under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act if misleading or false claims are made by car dealers.

2 Know the procedures, laws and policies involved in a car purchase.

3 Always double-check all documentation in relation to a car purchase carefully.
