Citizenship main factor for PGP appeal
The Pioneer Generation Package (PGP) appeals panel approved 642 appeals last year.
There were 2,900 appeals - related to eligibility - and 85 per cent of them were evaluated, said Senior Minister of State for Finance Josephine Teo in Parliament yesterday.
In response to MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC Seng Han Thong's question on the main grounds of unsuccessful and successful appeals, Ms Teo said that the panel decided that it would only consider appeals based on citizenship, not age.
Factors such as whether the applicant had obtained citizenship shortly after the cut-off date and had contributed to society are taken into account.
The Pioneer Generation is defined as those who are born in 1949 or earlier and became Singaporean before 1987.
