Want a job in Singapore with an attractive salary? Just pay a four-figure deposit.

That's the ruse a 36-year-old man used to cheat his victims.

The conman was arrested on Thursday (Jan 15) in Ang Mo Kio and is believed to be involved in at least four such cases.

The suspect posed as a free lance agent and offered victims various job opportunities with attractive salaries, stated a police press release.

He told them to pay a deposit ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 to secure employment, but became uncontactable after receiving the money.

Can be jailed, fined

The crimes were all committed this month.

Police received several reports and managed to establish the identity of the suspect after extensive follow-up investigations.

Investigations against the suspect are ongoing.

If charged and found guilty of cheating, he can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
