COPS TO WEAR BODY CAMERAS

Starting today, frontline police officers from the Bukit Merah West Neighbourhood Police Centre will don body-worn cameras.

Officers from five other NPCs - Ang Mo Kio North, Bedok South, Bukit Merah East, Jurong West and Toa Payoh - will have the cameras by June.

These cameras can capture audio and video recordings, and will be worn at the front of officers' uniforms. They will be switched on and kept in recording mode when officers are on the beat.

But the officers will have the discretion to stop recording in sensitive situations, such as dealing with victims of sexual offences.
