Couple win $9,000 in TNP Bonus Challenge and all they can say is 'Wow"
A lucky family bagged this Bonus Challenge's biggest jackpot so far: $9,000.
And as Madam Helen Teo Sock Kuan posed for the camera with a thick wad of $50 bills yesterday evening, she could say only one word.
"Wow!" said the 41-year-old freelance researcher.
Credit, however, must go to her husband, Mr Richard Bok, 45.
Said Madam Teo: "He's the one who has been keeping track of the numbers."
It wasn't a difficult task, said Mr Bok, since he is a regular reader of The New Paper's sports pages.
All he had to do was make sure he completed a full column of four numbers in his TNP Bonus Card, by matching them to the numbers published in TNP daily.
Said the financial planner: "I was lucky to get three numbers right on Tuesday, but I just needed one more number."
That number was 78, and Mr Bok burned it into his memory.
"When I bought the paper, I couldn't believe it. There it was, the number 78."
He excitedly called his wife, telling her, "We 'kena' (Malay for hit) already."
Said Madam Teo: "Now he can get that fish tank he has always wanted. It was out of our budget, but thanks to this, we have more than enough for one."
Mr Bok is hoping his good luck will continue.
"Getting the fish tank will improve our 'fengshui', and hopefully it will bring us even more luck and fortune," he said with a laugh.
Two other winners walked away with a $100 cash prize each yesterday.
One of the winners, delivery driver Armi Abdul Majid, said he was ecstatic to win something as it is his "second time lucky".
Last year, he had won a Philips stereo set.
"My eldest son has been bugging us to go eat the chicken at Nando's. With this $100, I'll take the whole family there," said the 41-year-old.
Mr Armi turned up to collect the prize with his wife and children, and saw Mr Bok and his family waiting to collect their jackpot.
Mr Armi said: "I saw this family sitting there and I knew they won the $9,000.
"Congrats to them, but I hope it'll be our turn next year."
The jackpot cash prize starts at $1,000 today.
