From Diana to Harry: Happy birthday, here's $20 million

This article is more than 12 months old

Prince Harry is set to receive £10 million (S$20.7 million) of his mother's fortune when he turns 30 on Sep 15.

The inheritance, stipulated in the will of Diana, Princess of Wales, is the same as what older brother Prince William received when he reached 30 in 2012.

But accumulated interest means Harry is likely to get a higher payout.

The money comes from a trust fund bequeathed to both sons at the time of her death in 1997.

Prince Harry was 12 when she died in a car crash in Paris.

In her original will, drawn up in 1993, the princess had stipulated that both princes would be entitled to their entire share on reaching 25 years old.

But details were changed by a variation order the High Court granted in December 1997 - months after her premature death.

Among the late princess' estate: Stocks and shares, jewellery, cash from her £17 million divorce settlement, dresses and other personal belongings at Kensington Palace, which was her home.

Prince Harry earns £38,847 (S$80,300) a year as an Army captain, Royal Central reported.

Her now famous wedding dress, which has been in the possession of her brother Earl Spencer since her death, will also be transferred into the sons' possession, the Daily Mail said.

Lord Spencer said her will stated the dress and a number of other dresses and belongings were to be "looked after" by him until both the boys turned 30.

The dress has recently been the centre-piece of the exhibition Diana: A Celebration.

For two months every year it was held at Althorp, the family's Northamptonshire estate. For the rest of the year the exhibition moved from country to country.
