The departure time of the AirAsia QZ8051 flight had been moved forward by two hours, but one family of 10 didn't know about that.

So by the time they arrived at the airport, the plane had already left.

Bloomberg reported Madam Anggi Mahesti, a former Indonesia beauty queen, as saying: "It was already the final call when my husband reached the airport in the first car with our bags.

"Most of the family were in another car that arrived 15 minutes later. The plane left without us."

Missed e-mail

Madam Mahesti, 27, said her husband had not seen the e-mail from the airline on Dec 15, informing them of the change in timing. They had also missed a call from AirAsia about it.

Mirror reported that the family was offered a chance to board the next flight, but they refused when they learnt that AirAsia QZ8051 had gone missing.

The plane was en route from Surabaya to Singapore when it lost contact with air traffic control, while still in Indonesia air space.

Madam Mahesti, a Miss Indonesia runner-up in 2008, had planned to spend a week here with her husband, their two children and other family members, reported Bloomberg.

"We decided not to fly after that because we were scared and didn’t want to tempt fate," she said.
