Fake Uber driver has car impounded by LTA
The private car used used by a man pretending to be an Uber cab driver has been impounded by the Land Transport Authority on Monday.
In a statement to the media, LTA said it has received complaints against the car owner and is investigating.
The New Paper reported on Tuesday that the man allegedly scammed at least two commuters over the weekend. While one caught on to the scam and paid him only $10, the other conceded and paid him $97, fearing the safety of his young children.
Muay Thai gym owner Darius Wong, 25, paid the driver only $10.
He said: "I paid him $10 and told him if he wanted the rest, he shoud come (out of the cab and get it from me). He just drove off."
Under the Road Traffic Act, private vehicles are not allowed to be used for hire and reward. Offenders could face up to six months jail, fined up to $3,000 and have their vehicles forfeited.
