Conquer a 4-storey hill in this year's TNP SUVival Challenge
Planning routes crucial to playing SUVival Challenge well, say organisers
Getting through the off-road segment of this year's TNP SUVival Challenge will be an uphill task.
Especially when many of the obstacles are literally on a hill up to four storeys high.
Mr Ryn Razif, 38, president of SUV Expedition Club, the event manager for this year's contest, said: "It'll be tough. But it will also be the most fun Challenge of the last 10 years."
While the obstacles are surmountable, participants will require confidence and courage to complete them, said Mr Ryn.
He said: "The organisers had a recce trip to the various Challenge sites over the weekend. Some of us got stuck - some twice - but even the two-wheel drives could make it through.
"You just need to follow the terrain and listen to the marshals."
The trick is not to be afraid to step hard on the accelerator, he added.
Participants will also have to navigate through plantations and deal with red, clay-like soil as they attempt the off-road segment.
"But there will be breathtaking scenery all around you, especially when you're on the hill," he said.
Now in its 10th year, the TNP SUVival Challenge takes participants on an adventure in Malaysia, where they will have to navigate their way through checkpoints with the help of clues, Amazing Race-style.
Contestants will take part in games and challenges, battle off-road terrain with muddy ditches, steep slopes and uneven ground.
INTENSE
Organisers have warned that this year's event will be the most intense so far. There is also $70,000 in cash and other prizes to be won.
Mr Ryn said it took the organisers about 45 minutes to reach the off-road site from the last Road Challenge checkpoint.
"We would advise participants to really plan their routes well. Planning is the most crucial element to playing the Challenge well," he said.
Mr Ryn, who was a participant in the Challenge in 2006, said he drew on his experience to engineer this year's Challenge.
He added: "We're almost ready and we are just fine-tuning some of the safety aspects of the various stations.
"We're looking forward to seeing as many familiar faces as possible... it'll be a good chance to catch up with others and make new friends in the off-road community," he said.
Registration closes this Sunday.
