He met murder victim online, called her "wife"

This article is more than 12 months old

She would often be in low-cut tops, micro shorts and sky-high stilettos, as seen in her Facebook pictures.

This is because Ms Tran Cam Ny, 32, earned a living through singing and dancing in a club. She also sold liquor there, according to her sister Dinah, 20.

Last Thursday, Ms Tran, a Vietnamese national, was found dead in a two-room unit at Block 406, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.

Her boyfriend, Lim Hou Peng Jackson, 40, was arrested and charged with murder two days later.

Dinah told evening daily Lianhe Wanbao on the phone from Vietnam that the couple had been dating for close to five months after meeting online.

As Dinah lives and works in Malaysia, she does not know where Ms Tran lived in Singapore.

It is not known when Ms Tran and Lim met, but Facebook posts reveal that Lim started liking the Vietnamese woman's posts in December last year.

He would also leave comments and compliments on Ms Tran's photos, which were often of her in revealing outfits.

In late February, Lim started addressing Ms Tran as "Baxa", which means wife in Vietnamese.

Dinah said Ms Tran kept details of her relationship with Lim vague, Wanbao reported.

From Facebook posts, it appears that the couple loved their branded goods.

Ms Tran was often pictured with a pair of Chanel shoes or a Louis Vuitton (LV) handbag.

Lim would splash his money on branded items whenever he had the cash, said his close friend, who declined to be named.

He told Wanbao that Lim saw these luxury items as status symbols.

He felt that with these items, people would not look down on him although he was lowly educated, the close friend added.

On the day he was charged, Lim was wearing a Moschino top and an LV belt.

The last time the sisters met was in October, when Ms Tran visited Dinah in Malaysia. The siblings and Dinah's boyfriend had steamboat together.

UNCLAIMED

Ms Tran's body has not been claimed from the mortuary.

Dinah flew home last Friday to make the necessary arrangements. She intended to rush back to Singapore with her mother yesterday, but could not make it in time, she said.

They are expected to arrive in Singapore tomorrow to identify and claim Ms Tran's body, before returning to Vietnam.

Following his charge, Lim was remanded for psychiatric investigation and will apppear in court again on Dec 20.

If convicted, he faces the death penalty of life imprisonment. If not punished by death, he will be liable for caning.
