An India TV news anchor was sacked after she referred to China president Xi Jinping as "Eleven" Jinping during a news broadcast on Wednesday.
She had confused his surname with the Roman numerals XI, a senior official at the state television channel said on Friday.
Mr Xi had been visiting the country when the mistake was made.
Local news site Quartz Friday quoted Doordarshan chief executive Jawahar Sircar as saying the newscaster had been sacked and steps had been taken to avoid a repeat of such an incident.
The gaffe led to a wave of comments on social media.
