Italian nurse allegedly kills 38 patients for 'annoying' her

Meet 42-year-old Daniela Poggiali.

To some, she's a nurse.

But to others, she's far scarier - an angel of death who allegedly kills people in cold blood.

Police in northeast Italy arrested her over the weekend in Lugo - on suspicion of killing up to 38 patients because she found them (or their relatives) annoying.

Italian Corriere di Bologna newspaper said cops found evidence that included a photo on the nurse’s mobile phone of her giving a thumbs-up next to a patient who had just died.

“I can assure you in that all my professional years of seeing shocking photos, there were few such as these,” prosecutor Alessandro Mancini said.

Death by injection

The New York Post said Poggiali was booked for allegedly killing Rosa Calderoni, a 78-year-old patient who died from an injection of high levels of potassium.

Calderoni had been admitted to the hospital for a routine illness but died suddenly.

The death launched the investigation.

What the authorities discovered was shocking: 38 patients had died mysteriously while Poggiali was on duty.

One of Poggiali’s colleagues said the accused nurse was once reported for giving powerful laxatives to patients at the end of her shift to make work tougher for nurses working after her.
