Kenyan socialite turns into a #BleachedBeauty
The Kim Kardashian of Kenya is almost unrecognisable after skin-lightening treatment.
The socialite admitted in an interview on Kenyan TV on Friday night that she lightened her skin tone because fair skin opens doors to more "job opportunities".
BBC reported that Vera Sidika, like Kim K, is known for posting shots of her "bootylicious" derriere on social media platforms.
In the TV interview, Miss Sidika, who claims to be in her 20s, said that "looking good is my business...My body is my business, nobody else's but mine".
Expensive treatment
Miss Sidika claimed that it cost her about 15 million Kenyan shillings (S$210,000) and it's paying off in more modelling assignments.
"The more hot I look, the more money I get. I’ve been booked for the Happy Powerball XS millionaires club in June." she told the Kenyan Standard Media late last month.
But netizens have slammed her for saying that dark is not beautiful. Independent Online reported on a few tweets under the hashtag #BleachedBeauty.
One tweet, inspired by reggae great Bob Marley no less, read: "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. Who told you black is not beautiful?"
Another said: "Your face is yellow, your neck is red & your chest is now black."
