Malaysia MRT Corp CEO quits over accident that killed 3
Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid, the CEO of Malaysia's MRT Corp, announced his resignation today, following the construction site accident that killed three workers on Monday night.
At a press conference today, he said: "As of tomorrow, I am no longer the CEO.
"I have done my best, but I have evidently failed and therefore will be handing over my duties."
The Star reported that three Bangladeshi workers were killed after a 300-tonne concrete span fell to the ground at a construction site near Kota Damansara, a town near Kuala Lumpur.
Mr Azhar said that he would see the case through, despite his departure, reported The Rakyat Post.
“No effort will be spared in getting to the bottom of this tragic incident," he said.
“We will also not spare anyone whose actions are found to have caused or contributed to this accident.”
The Malay Mail reported that Malaysian PM Najib Abdul Razak has ordered a full investigation into the accident.
