Man arrested for trying to smuggle 5kg of birds' nest to China
A Chinese man hid close to 5kg of birds' nest in cans of tea and tried to smuggle them out of Sri Lanka.
He was caught at the country's main airport in Colombo on Tuesday.
The man had planned to smuggle the goods with a street value of 6.35 million rupees (S$61,600) to the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.
Customs spokesman Leslie Gamini said: "We have arrested the man and investigations are under way."
The spokesman added that trading in birds' nests is banned in the country.
"We will confiscate the nests and send them to our museum for display."
