Man charged with daughter-in-law's murder

A man was charged in court yesterday with the murder of his daughter-in-law.

Char Chin Fah, 80, allegedly murdered housewife Ong Guat Leng, 54, in their flat at Block 440, Tampines Street 43, sometime between 9am and 10am on Thursday.

Char, who was in a red polo shirt, looked calm as he stood in the dock as the charge was read out to him.

He has been remanded at Central Police Division and will be back in court on Aug 29.

Two men, believed to be his family members, were in court yesterday.

When approached, the older one, who looked middle-aged, said in Mandarin that he was not in the right frame of mind to be interviewed.

If convicted of murder, Char will face the death penalty.
