The Ministry of Manpower's Guide for Foreign Workers spells out the restrictions for marriages between Singaporeans and work permit holders:
- A work permit holder cannot marry a Singapore citizen or permanent resident in or outside Singapore without the approval of the Controller of Work Passes. This applies even after the work permit is expired, cancelled or revoked.
- The work permit holder cannot get pregnant or deliver a child in Singapore during the validity of her work permit unless she is already married to a Singapore citizen or permanent resident with the approval of the Controller of Work Passes. This applies even after the work permit is expired, been cancelled or revoked.
The result of breaking any of these work permit conditions is a cancellation of the work permit with the possibility of not being allowed to enter Singapore in the future.
