Masked men clash with Hong Kong protesters at rally site

This article is more than 12 months old

Hong Kong pro-democracy demonstrators clashed with dozens of masked men at the main protest site in the city centre on Monday - as police struggled to contain the chaos.

Earlier today, police had removed the barricades.

The protest is currently in its 15th day.

Talks with the government failed to materialise following students' demands for democracy.

Masked men had reportedly rushed to the Admiralty site as protesters tried to guard the barriers and push the men back.

Police tackled two men to the ground and also formed a cordon around the masked group as protesters shouted: "Weapons! Weapons!" and "Arrest the triads".

While the authenticity of the information in this Facebook post is under debate, it seems to indicate that men were being paid to hassle protesters.
