A mother and her daughter are in serious condition after being stabbed in their home in Kedah, Malaysia on Thursday (Dec 18).

The incident happened at about 4am when the woman's daughter, Nur Amira Ashaari, 22, woke up after a man barged into her room from the back door.

Her cousin Aldi Ruslan, 25, said the intruder grabbed Miss Nur Amira by the neck and told her to be quiet.

"However, she screamed and was then stabbed by the man," he said.

Miss Nur Amira's mother, Ms Adriana Ahmad Kamil, 45, rushed to help her daughter after hearing her screams and was also attacked.

Bleeding profusely

The burglar ran off soon after leaving both the mother and child bleeding profusely.

Despite her injuries, Miss Nur Amira went to look for her neighbour for help.

"When I went out, I saw Nur Amira drenched in blood," said neighbour Cheng Kok Peng who heard someone calling out for help at his gate.

He then alerted the police.

Both victims have been sent to hospital.

Miss Nur Amira sustained injuries to her chest and left hand while her mother, who was stabbed in the abdomen, remains in critical condition.
