A 37-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his 75-year-old mother with a hammer in a fit of anger.

The incident happened at their home in Selangor.

Police were informed of the incident on Tuesday (Jan 13) after receiving a call from the man.

"When we arrived at the single-storey terrace house, we found his mother sprawled underneath an arch separating the kitchen and living room.

"Blood was oozing from her head, leading us to believe that she was struck on the skull.

"The hammer, believed to have been used to hit her, was found in the living room not far from where her body was," a source close to the investigation told The Star.

 Brain injuries

Statements taken from family members indicated that the suspect was involved in an accident 10 years ago that left him with brain injuries, the source said.

He is believed to have been receiving treatment for the condition.

Family members said that missing his medication would cause him to be unstable.

"We are still waiting for an official report from Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia before establishing possible motives and causes behind the incident," said the source.

The suspect, who is the youngest among four siblings, is believed to be living with his father and brother while his mother and sister lived in another house close by.

It is believed that his mother was at the house on Tuesday morning to give him his medication, which was supposedly a daily routine.

But after getting into an argument, he is said to have struck her with a hammer, killing her.

Police said that case is being probed for murder.
