National Healthcare Group announces new CEO

This article is more than 12 months old

The National Healthcare Group (NHG) on Tuesday (Jan 6) announced that Group CEO Professor Chee Yam Cheng will hand over his leadership role to Deputy Group CEO (Regional Health) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) CEO Prof Philip Choo.

In turn, Prof Choo, 56, will be succeeded by Dr Eugene Soh, who will take over as CEO of TTSH. Dr Soh is currently chief operating officer.

Prof Choo takes over from Prof Chee, 65, who has served four years at the helm of Singapore's second largest public healthcare group.

During his leadership at TTSH from 2011 to last year, Prof Choo reshaped the 170-year-old hospital’s operations and clinical infrastructure to provide even better service to patients.

"You get great joy when you work as a doctor but the change is limited to individual patients. If you can change systems and mindsets, you broaden your reach a lot more," said Prof Choo in a statement.

"We therefore seek to continue developing leadership in our people, enhancing their skills, capabilities, building systems and teams to deliver healthcare that creates value for our patients and Singaporeans." he added.

The changes will be effective from Jan 10.
