NFL violence scandals

In the US, the National Football League has been plagued by domestic abuse scandals in the last few months.

Here's a look at the players who have sparked national outrage following claims of their violent behaviour.

ADRIAN PETERSON

The Minnesota Vikings player has been accused of child abuse as reports surfaced that he allegedly beat his four-year-old son bloody with a tree branch for misbehaving. Peterson has asked for a polygraph via Twitter in a bid to prove his innocence.

GREG HARDY

The Carolina Panthers' defensive star has proclaimed his innocence over charges that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend and threatened to kill her. His trial is slated for November.

JONATHAN DWYER

The Arizona Cardinals running back is alleged to have head-butted his wife and broken her nose after she refused his sexual advances. According to CNN, the most serious of six charges were three counts of assault, one of which caused a fracture.

RAY RICE

The former Baltimore Ravens running back has called punching his future wife in the head "inexcusable". A video showed that he beat her till she was unconscious.

RAY MCDONALD

The San Francisco 49ers defensive player was arrested on an accusation of domestic violence. However, no charges have been filed.
