Nightclub waitress asked to pay fine for weight gained

This article is more than 12 months old

A young nightclub waitress in Malaysia allegedly signed an employment contract that stated that she would be fined if she put on more than 5kg of her ideal weight, reported Malaysian media Guang Ming Daily.

It was reported that under the terms of employment, the 24-year-old, known only as Yao, was liable for a RM30 (S$11) fine for every subsequent kilo she gained and would not be allowed to have dinner.

Given that her movement was restricted in the club, she wanted to resign but faced a penalty of RM100,000 should she do so.

Desperate, Miss Yao finally called her father for help on Monday.

On the same day, police rescued her from a double-storey house, which had been turned into a hostel, in Ipoh.

Three men and seven women, aged between 18 and 24, were arrested.

Miss Yao's father said his daughter had told him that she worked as a cosmetics sales assistant and he claimed that there were another 12 women who had signed the agreement last year.
