He looks for drugs and texts narcotics chief

We've read about lawbreakers who do silly things.

But this case will probably go down as one of the more costly mistakes in criminal activity.

Florida man William Lamberson decided to reach for his phone when he felt like buying some drugs last month.

However, the 29-year-old man from Port St Lucie somehow got his wires crossed and ended up sending his request to the narcotics unit captain of the Martin County Sheriff's Office instead.

Instead of turning Lamberson away, however, the shrewd lawman decided to play along.

Once the captain knew Lamberson was looking for drugs, he managed to convince the offender to set up a cocaine transaction over SMS.

Note the totally legitimate street lingo.

Once the deal was put into place, it was just a simple matter of getting together a team to bring the offender to justice and charging Lamberson with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.

Moral of the story? Always check and make sure you're dialling the right number.
