TV personality Quan Yifeng's bag slashed by thieves in Thai capital

She has visited Bangkok regularly over the past 10 years.

But during her latest visit to the Thai capital on May 1, TV personality Quan Yifeng encountered a first: A thief who tried to steal from her bag.

Fortunately, no one was hurt and nothing was stolen.

The incident happened on May 3 at the Platinum Fashion Mall.

Quan, 40, had gone there with her 14-year-old daughter, Kaixin, reported Lianhe Wanbao.

The duo had lunch in Bangkok with local celebrity hairstylist Addy Lee the day before. Lee is Kaixin's godfather.

The mother and daughter were on their way to get a foot massage and were walking through a large crowd when the thief struck, slashing Quan's bag.

Kaixin related the incident on Instagram: "Then suddenly, a lady around the age of 30 holding a big green plastic bag (tried) to push me away from my mom (because i was standing behind her)."

Kaixin said she grabbed her mother's hand and squeezed in front of the woman. At that moment, she saw a hand reaching into her mother's bag, so she quickly snatched the bag and glared at the thief, a different woman who appeared to be in her 40s.

Quan related the incident on her Facebook page: "Thankfully my daughter stuck closely to me.

"Two women - one pushed my daughter away, while the other immediately slashed my bag and put her hand in to feel around."

She described how her daughter had glared fiercely at the thief and held on firmly to the bag before shouting: "Mummy, she is stealing your things!"

The thief then walked away to a shop, pretending to shop for clothes, said Kaixin.

FRIGHTENED

Lee, 43, the chief executive of Monsoon Hair Group, told Wanbao: "She (Quan) was very shocked and frightened, while Kaixin didn't have much of a reaction.

"I told her that thankfully their passports were not stolen or it would have been very troublesome."

He added that after the scare, the three of them only visited the major shopping malls and took taxis everywhere they went. Quan also held on tightly to her bag whenever she was outside, not daring to relax for a moment.

Despite her scare, Quan appeared cheerful in her Facebook post, saying: "Hahahahaha thankfully my bag has an inner lining. After slashing one layer, there is another layer.

"There was nothing missing but what is more important is that my daughter and I were not hurt by their sharp object."

Kaixin added in her Instagram post: "The piece of cloth (from the bag) was actually really thick, so can you imagine how sharp the knife was? I'm just so grateful and thankful that we weren't hurt."

Lee told Wanbao that Quan had always enjoyed shopping at the area around Platinum Fashion Mall, but the environment there is slightly rowdy.

Quan had sent a photo of her slashed bag to him immediately after the incident. He said: "At first, I thought it was a new bag she had her eye on and wanted to buy."

Quan also posted a photo of her ripped bag on Instagram. She said: "Thailand friends gave me this present, thieves have ripped my bag."

She accompanied the post with hashtags "Be careful of thieves around you", "Quick movement", "Good skills" and "Return me a bag".

A regular visitor to Thailand himself, Lee advised: "Don't carry cloth bags, because they are easily ripped, so thieves think it is a good target.

"When on holiday, dress plainly and place your money separately. Also remember to buy insurance."

Quan added on Facebook: "Accidents can happen anywhere, thieves can be anywhere. Most importantly, get someone to accompany you, be careful of the valuables on hand and be more vigilant no matter where you are."
