Crimewatch turns 30
The National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) and the police yesterday celebrated the 30th anniversary of TV docu-drama Crimewatch at the NCPC's 35th anniversary dinner.
Mr K. Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Law, was the guest of honour at the event (seen above with Commissioner of Police Hoong Wee Teck on the left and NCPC chairman Tan Kian Hoon).
Crimewatch, which attracted 1.3 million viewers on its debut in November 1986, continues to enjoy high viewership and has regularly ranked as the number one programme on Channel 5. It is also consistently ranked among the top 10 programmes on Channel 8, Suria and Vasantham.
Each episode, reenacting an actual case, attracts an average of 1.2 million viewers.
