Death of fish possibly due to weather
Low levels of dissolved oxygen due to the hot and dry weather could have led to the death of about 400 fish at Bishan Park on Tuesday, the PUB said in a statement.
The national water agency said on its Facebook page yesterday that it received a report of several dead fish, which it identified as Tilapia and Mayan Cichlid, at the upstream section of Kallang River at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park on Tuesday morning.
Contractors were activated to clear up the dead fish, and the clean-up was completed at 3pm yesterday.
Water samples were also collected and laboratory tests showed that water quality was not affected and there was no contamination.
PARK STILL SAFE
"It is safe for the public to continue with the water activities," said the agency.
"PUB will continue to monitor the situation closely."
The agency also assured the public that "it has a comprehensive monitoring system to monitor the quality of raw water in our reservoirs and the raw water is treated at the waterworks to World Health Organisation drinking water quality guidelines before it is supplied to households".
