Three nabbed for trafficking $185k worth of drugs

Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers have arrested three men and seized 1.63kg of heroin and 90g of Ice worth about $185,000.

They nabbed two Singaporeans, aged 42 and 25, and a Malaysian, 41, after tailing them in an operation on Thursday night.

Apart from the heroin and Ice (or methamphetamine), $20,000 was also seized from the men.

The operation started with CNB officers observing two of the three suspects meeting at Choa Chu Kang Way at 9.25pm before parting shortly after.

The older Singaporean drove off in his car and the Malaysian drove off in a bus (inset).

The Singaporean was arrested when he stopped at a traffic junction at Choa Chu Kang Drive five minutes later.

Officers found 1.4kg of heroin in a plastic bag on the car's front passenger seat. Another 230g of heroin was found in his Choa Chu Kang hideout.

Another team of officers followed the Malaysian, who picked up the 25-year-old Singaporean at Teck Whye Crescent at about 9.40pm.

The younger man was seen discarding a plastic package containing about 90g of Ice.

He alighted from the bus and was arrested shortly after. His home at Woodlands Circle had drug paraphernalia and a weighing scale.

The Malaysian was arrested after he stopped the bus at Lentor Avenue.

In a statement, CNB director Ng Ser Song said that the bureau saw an increase in the number of drug abusers arrested and drugs seized last year.

He said: "CNB will maintain the intensity of our enforcement efforts and this is a warning to all would-be drug offenders."

Investigations into the drug-trafficking activities of all three suspects are ongoing.
