Tipper truck hits car. Sleeping passenger says: I woke up and car was spinning
They were on their way to buy food.
But as the family of four were travelling along Clementi Road early yesterday afternoon, a tipper truck crashed into the back of their Honda hatchback.
The resulting impact sent their car spinning. It then flipped and crashed into the road's centre divider.
Said one of the passengers, who declined to be named: "It happened very fast. I was sleeping when it happened.
"I woke up and the car was spinning. It was like a roller coaster."
The man said he was travelling in the car driven by his father.
His mother and brother were also in the car.
He said he did not remember how long the car went out of control before it hit the centre divider.
"All I remember is that we were being tossed about in the car," he said.
The next thing he knew, he was upside down and struggling to escape from the vehicle.
"There was only one window (the driver's window) that we could climb out from," he said.
Fortunately, five or six passers-by ran over to their aid, he said.
HELP
"The construction workers at a nearby site saw what happened. They came over and helped us climb out of the car."
He was quick to thank those who helped him and his family out of the vehicle.
"They were very nice. After they helped us get out, they kept asking us if we were okay," he said.
"We're still very shocked. This is the first time we've been involved in an accident."
His mother said: "We're very lucky and thankful that no one was injured."
A police spokesman said they received a call about an accident at 12.40pm along Clementi Road.
No injuries were reported and no further assistance was required upon arrival, he said.
