US man wishes woman merry Christmas, then rapes her
It is not unusual for strangers to wish each other merry Christmas during the festive season.
But one such exchange in New York City on Christmas Day ended with a beating and rape.
A 51-year-old woman was waiting for a bus at a secluded area on Thursday morning when a stranger greeted her.
The man, Jose R. Roys, attempted to strike up a conversation, reported NBC New York. The woman crossed the street, and the 37-year-old man followed.
Roys then allegedly punched the woman in her face, dragged her to a secluded area and raped her, reported New York Post.
He took her notebook before fleeing the scene.
The woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Roys was arrested on Friday morning and charged with rape, assault, robbery and criminal sex act.
