Couple in trouble #2

A couple from Michigan in the US have been arrested for abusing a four-year-old girl.

Authorities found the child wearing urine-soaked clothes and having bruises and cuts.

Joseph Franks, 30, and his 27-year-old girlfriend, Andrea Limon, were nabbed at their home earlier this week - nearly three months after authorities found the malnourished girl, the Traverse City Record-Eagle reported.

They have been charged with first-degree child abuse.

Authorities said they investigated the couple's home on April 23 after a babysitter reported finding Franks' daughter in her crib wearing urine-soaked clothes. The babysitter also said the girl was underweight.

An officer questioned the couple and quickly became suspicious of Franks, who was holding the child wrapped in a blanket. She had bald spots on her head.

"When he set (the child) down, the blanket fell to the ground and (the officer) immediately noticed severe bruising from the top of her back all the way to her pant line," an investigator wrote in court documents.

"He also noticed fresh scab marks on her face and the top of her head."

The couple tried to explain to police how the child injured herself while throwing fits inside the house, WWTV reported.

But after speaking to the child's grandmother - who was given temporary custody of the girl - investigators learnt that the little girl had no history of hurting herself.

The couple are scheduled to appear in court on July 22. If convicted, they could face life in prison.
