Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar was crowned the fifth Sultan of Johor yesterday.

The lavish affair was attended by thousands of Johoreans, with crowds gathering as early as 7am around the Johor Baru city centre, reported The Star.

Sultan Ibrahim ascended the throne in 2010.

He had said the delay for his coronation was because he felt there was no need to rush, and the places for the coronation had to be refurbished, reported The Business Times.

The parade proceeded along a 7.95km route that started from Istana Besar on Jalan Ibrahim, passing Jalan Wong Ah Fook, Jalan Gereja, Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Persiaran Abu Bakar Sultan, before ending at Istana Bukit Serene.

Foreign dignitaries, including Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, were seen entering the palace.

Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law K. Shanmugam also attended the coronation accompanied by his wife, Dr Seetha Shanmugam, reported The Straits Times on its website.
