Plane grounded after part of wing becomes detached mid-air
The CityJet plane was a flight from London to Florence when passengers heard a bang.
When they looked out of the windows they were horrified to see a one-metre long section of the left wing hanging loose from the plane, The Guardin reported.
The alarmed passengers immediately alerted the cabin crew.
The pilot was forced to abort the flight. He circled the Thames estuary before making an unscheduled landing at London City Airport.
They were 60 passengers on board.
Mr Cole Moreton, a features writer at the Telegraph who was on board the flight, described those moments: "The bang made people jump and was alarming then we sat there thinking this isn’t right, surely?”
