Road closure at Orchard Road this Saturday
It's the first Pedestrian Night on Orchard Road this Saturday.
A 660m stretch of road in the popular shopping boulevard will be closed to vehicles between 6pm and 11pm.
We've marked out in the map below the parts that motorists should avoid.
(Red = Road block) (Green = Area that is closed to vehicular traffic)
During that period, only police and emergency vehicles will be granted access to the stretch of road.
Parking restrictions along the peripheral roads will be strictly enforced, and vehicles found parking indiscriminately and causing obstruction will be towed away, police said in a press release.
Motorists heading to the Orchard Road area should enter via Grange Road.
Bus services will also be affected. (Refer to map below.)
SBS Transit Bus Services 7, 14, 16, 36, 65, 111, 123, 124, 143, 162M, 174, 175, 502 and 518 will skip two bus stops along Orchard Road.
SMRT Bus Services 77, 106, 167, 171, 190, 700A and 972 routes along Orchard Road will be diverted.
(Orange route = Diverted route)
The pedestrian street is an initiative by the Orchard Road Business Association and is supported by the Singapore Tourism Board.
The six-month pilot programme aims to inject street vibrancy into the area.
It will be held every first Saturday of the month, from 6pm to 11pm.
This Saturday's event is called Tennis Pops Up @ Orchard Road and will feature tennis clinics, game booths, demostration matches and even music performances by popular local acts.
It starts at 7.30pm and ends at 9.30pm.
