Rush to bank in money on 'lucky' day

This article is more than 12 months old

Long queues formed at many cash deposit machines yesterday, as people rushed to bank in their money on what was deemed an auspicious day in the Chinese calendar.

Feb 4, known as Li Chun in the Chinese calendar, marks the beginning of spring and was particularly significant for farmers looking for a bountiful harvest in the past, The Straits Times online reported.

It has now become lucky to bank in money while wearing a red top on the day - with some believing that it can help grow their wealth.

At Toa Payoh Central at lunchtime, a line of almost 20 people was at the POSB deposit machine.

Mr Joshua Lim, 28, changed his mind about making a deposit after waiting for almost 30 minutes. "I didn't expect the queue to be so long," said the advertising executive.
