A safer Silver Zone

TNP INFOGRAPHICS: BILLY KER, PRADIP KUMAR SIKDAR

1 SILVER ZONE GATEWAY

Signs and road markings indicate the start of a Silver Zone and alert motorists to slow down. Silver Zones will have a speed limit of 40 kmh.

2 PINCH POINTS

Ramp-downs at crossing points eliminate the need for seniors to step over roadside kerbs. Elderly pedestrians can also rest halfway while crossing the road.

"Look" markings at the side of the road will remind pedestrians to look out for vehicles before crossing.

3 RAISED ZEBRA CROSSING

This will make pedestrians more visible to motorists and serve as a speed hump at the same time to slow motorists down.

4 BUS-FRIENDLY HUMPS

This will slow vehicles down and prevent motorists from speeding.

5 MOUNTABLE CENTRE DIVIDERS

These dividers will make roads narrower and reduce vehicle speeds along two-way traffic roads. In an emergency, such as a vehicle breakdown, vehicles can mount over the dividers to get to the other side.

6 FULL-HEIGHT CENTRE DIVIDERS

Reduce lane widths and speeds for motorists.
