Car rams into police car on TPE
Police vehicles attending to accident on rightmost lane get involved in a crash as well
A car crashed into the back of a stationary police car on the fast lane of the Tampines Expressway (TPE) on Thursday night.
The crash, which was caught on camera by another car, left the driver and two police officers injured.
The policemen were attending to an earlier accident involving two cars when the accident happened at about 10.30pm, near the Loyang Avenue exit.
The driver and policemen were taken conscious to Changi General Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries, a police spokesman said.
Earlier, police had received a call about an accident between two cars on the TPE in the direction of the PIE.
Officers arrived at the accident site, on the rightmost lane of the expressway, at about 9.30pm and parked their vehicles behind the affected cars.
They alighted and carried out their investigation.
There was a lighted sign placed several metres behind the police car.
At 10.30pm, just as the tow trucks were about to move the cars away, a silver car crashed into the back of the police car.
An enforcement motorcycle was also damaged, said the police spokesman.
CAUGHT ON VIDEO
The incident was captured on video by a motorist and the 33-second footage was uploaded onto online group Roads.sg.
In the video, the silver car is first seen overtaking the driver whose dashcam recorded the video.
The silver car then collides with the police car and is seen skidding to the left before coming to a stop.
The car ends up pointing towards the central divider, with half of it jutting into the next lane.
Chinese newspaper Lianhe Wanbao reported that witnesses heard the driver, a man in his 50s, apologising to the police officers.
According to photographs of the accident, the boot of the police car was badly crushed while the front of the silver car was also dented.
The motorcycle was seen lying on its side, with its saddle bags open, facing the silver car.
The New Paper understands that the driver has not been arrested as police investigations are ongoing.
