Daniel Goh: Do not slam media
Workers' Party (WP) candidate Daniel Goh has appealed to members of the public to stop flaming mainstream media after an allegation that he had an affair with an ex-student surfaced on Thursday (Aug 27).
Dr Goh, an Associate Professor of Sociology with the National University of Singapore, refuted the "baseless" story. He later lodged a police report on Friday morning about the poison pen letter containing the allegation that was sent to the media and WP chiefs Low Thia Khiang and Sylvia Lim.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Dr Goh made known the sequence of events leading up to the publication of the story, urging Singaporeans to "move on and rationally debate the issues".
The 42-year-old, who was interviewed by Zaobao journalists prior to making the post, wrote:
"The journalists were personally apologetic about last night and I give them the benefit of the doubt that there was no malice involved. I do not intend to cancel my subscription to both papers.
"They are part of the equation to empower your future. But our media institutions will not develop if we keep slamming them over this."
