Dr Chee: We don't want gutter politics

This article is more than 12 months old

Singapore Democratic Party secretary-general Chee Soon Juan, 53, yesterday called for a good contest of ideas in the GE.

"We are looking forward to a good contest, a contest of ideas. We don't want any of the gutter politics that have gone on in the past," said Dr Chee.

"What good does it do to Singaporeans if we keep calling each other names? And we never get to resolve some of the problems Singaporeans have to live with on a daily basis."

Dr Chee is contesting Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, along with National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine professor Paul Tambyah, 50, compliance auditor Sidek Mallek, 55, and healthcare administrator Chong Wai Fung.

Dr Chee last contested a General Election 14 years ago.

He was sued by PAP leaders for defamation and declared bankrupt after he could not pay the damages, ruling him out of the 2006 and 2011 GEs.
