She uses her iPhone 6s to take pictures of sunsets and mountains while on holiday and in Singapore, but has been wanting higher quality pictures.

Miss Universe Singapore (MUS) 2016 finalist Nutan Rai, a 24-year-old nurse, plans to buy the Canon EOS 5D Mark III when she has saved enough money.

Professional photographers she has worked with have recommended the $5,000 camera to her on several occasions.

She told The New Paper at Canon's The Festival of Photography event at Raffles City last Saturday: "It has a 22.3 megapixel full frame and a CMOS Sensor, which is more than enough for a non-professional photographer to use.

"The video function is even better - and perfect for me since I like to take videos."

The MUS finalists made a special appearance at Canon's The Festival of Photography, rocking the stage during a catwalk and playing games with photography enthusiasts at the event.

Canon is the official imaging partner for MUS 2016.

The Festival of Photography - which was free to the public and lasted from noon to 8pm - featured seminars and talks by award-winning photographers like Mr Alvin Foo.

Another MUS finalist, Poojaa Gill, a 25-year-old full-time model, said she enjoys taking photographs of herself against breathtaking scenery.

An avid traveller, she has been to many countries in Asia, and her favourite is the Philippines.

While staying in Makatifor two months earlier this year, she even shot Mount Pinatubo.

Poojaa said: "Every weekend was an adventure for me because there were so many new things to photograph and look at... The beaches and crater lakes were very beautiful."

Nutan added: "I love those kinds of (sunset) views and I want to make sure to capture the moment.

"I love the peaceful feeling of watching the sun go down and witnessing the beautiful transformation into darkness."

For Poojaa, The Festival of Photography taught her more about the capabilities of the M10 camera and she hopes to own it in the near future.

She said: "I don't like bulky cameras so the M10 is perfect as it is compact and yet still has the capabilities of a DSLR camera."

For Mr Edwin Teoh, head of marketing (Singapore operations) at Canon Singapore, having the MUS finalists present "added a new dimension to the event".

He told TNP: "I can see that the fans were very interested in taking pictures of the ladies, who are good photographic subjects that exude class.

"Shooting a catwalk is a different assignment and can help to engage the Canon EOS Community and cultivate their love for photography."
