Hundreds bid final farewell to TKPS teacher
Scores of mourners visited Kampung Siglap Mosque on Friday afternoon (June 19) to bid their final farewell to Tanjong Katong Primary School (TKPS) teacher Mohammed Ghazi Mohamed.
The remains of TKPS pupil Navdeep Singh Jaryal and Mr Ghazi were brought back to Singapore earlier on Friday (June 19).
Among the mourners at the mosque were former students, fellow educators, the TKPS football team and survivors of the quake.
Also at the prayers were Minister for Communications and Information Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Education Heng Swee Keat and Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education Hawazi Daipi.
Dr Yaacob was one of the pall bearers who carried Mr Ghazi's coffin out of the mosque at about 5pm.
It was then taken to the Muslim cemetery in Lim Chu Kang for burial.
Speaking to the media after the hearse had left, a visibly emotional Dr Yaacob choked up, calling it "a sad day".
Mr Heng, who also spoke to the media, thanked the Malaysian authorities for expediting the process of bringing home the remains, allowing the families to get some form of closure.
