Jail, cane for three M'sians who assaulted cleaner at Pearls Centre
Three Malaysian men were each jailed four years and given six strokes of the cane on Tuesday (Sept 15) after assaulting a cleaner at the multi-storey carpark of Pearls Centre at Eu Tong Sen Street on Sept 7 last year.
Mr S Krisnan Value, 47, also a Malaysian, later died from his injuries.
Security guard Kirubakaran Manikumaran, 23, odd-job labourer Thiagu Muniandy, 24 and Sunder Rangasamy, 28, had come to Singapore to look for work.
Each pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
Kirubakaran also admitted stealing Mr Krisnan's mobile phone and his ATM card after the assault, which happened between 12.30 and 1.15am.
A fourth man, cleaner Ananthan Muniandy, 20, also allegedly assaulted Mr Krisnan and his case is still pending.
The men ganged up on their victim after he had a dispute with Kirubakaran. Court papers did not mention what it was about.
