Miss Universe Singapore 2016: Joeypink Lai
Travelling has always been one of Joeypink's passions.
So when she got the chance to fly with Singapore Airlines from 2013 till this year, it was a dream come true.
What is one cause you would champion if you become Miss Universe Singapore 2016?
The welfare and protection of animals. Despite the increased prominence of animal welfare campaigns, the increasing trend of animal abuse is worrying. I feel that all animals should be treated with respect and we can play an active and important role in ensuring their welfare and well-being.
Which influential living person would you like to meet?
Angelina Jolie is a woman I respect and look up to. As a highly-paid Hollywood actress who is not only beautiful and intelligent, she puts her success to good use by giving back to society and supporting many causes for the underprivileged.
What is your proudest achievement so far?
Transforming from an introvert to who I am today. I used to be shy and did not take the initiative to reach out to people. I have grown to be more confident and even found the courage to stand on the stage of national competitions like last year's The New Paper New Face and MUS 2016.
Which travel destination has been most special to you?
My trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, in October 2013. While most of my colleagues were excited about the wildlife tours, I decided to join the Soweto tour to witness the lives of poor children. Words cannot describe what the smile on their faces meant to me...to further remind me to be thankful for all that I have.
Why did you choose to go into real estate?
It was mainly due to my desire to be closer to home and spend more time with my mother. Having mastered the "customer first" attitude and the art of communication with SIA, I chose real estate as it utilises my skill set, as well as for the rewarding nature of the job.
